La Piazza Al Forno has been turning out wood-fired pizza and pasta in Glendale's historic district since 2007. It has received much acclaim, great customer response and was featured on the Food Network's ''Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.''

Calico Jack's at Westgate City Center is a gringo-ized Mexican restaurant, a sort of theme-park version of Mexican cuisine. Come for the atmosphere and the location, the pretty patio, the beer.

The Grind - named recently by "Bon Appetit" as one of the top 10 must-try burger joints in the country - is a terrific addition to the Arcadia neighborhood. The burgers are architectural, piled high and narrow, and very satisfying.
